All our college teams will be training from the start of the university year following the latest government guidance, ensuring the safety of all players. Where possible and safe to do so, competitive play will commence either in full or in an adapted style.
College teams take part in weekly league fixtures throughout Terms 1 and 2, culminating in the college with the most points at the end of the year being crowned college sport champions! We are hopeful that college league fixtures will be able to take place in Term 2, in line with government and university regulations.
Summer sports host tournaments in Term 3 that college sport members can participate in.
Term 3 sees the inaugural College Cup come to campus. This is a one-off tournament separate to the regular leagues that all teams can participate in. The College Cup is a firm favourite with our college teams and is a great way to relieve some stress during exam season.
College Varsity is the pinnacle event of college sport, taking place against Durham University each year. The best York college teams take on their Durham rivals to be crowned College Varsity Champions. There are 16 sports involved in the competition so there is really something for everyone, all you need to do to get involved in your college sport teams.
In order to decide who will represent York in Varsity, we host qualifier tournaments in Term 2. You must finish well in your league to secure a place in the qualifier tournaments so every match counts!
College Sport Reps
Sports reps work within your respective college to help organise teams, support captains and run sports events throughout the year. These are an elected position within your college and elections take place in November each year. For more information, speak to your college committee about what’s involved and how to apply.
Don’t fancy playing? Why not get involved by officiating fixtures? Positions are available in Football, Netball, Rugby and Hockey and no prior experience is necessary. If this sounds like something you could be interested in, contact [email protected] for more information.
College Sport Committee
The College Sport Committee oversees the running of all college sport activities and events and is made up of a College Sport Officer, Communications Officer and representatives from each college.
