University Sport

At the York Sport Union, we believe sport is all about having fun, being social and giving every student the opportunity to get involved. We ensure that all of our clubs are shaped and directed by our members, the students, which means that each club is run by a student committee.

Many of our clubs offer the chance to compete in BUCS (British University College Sport) representing the University of York across the country against other Universities. As well as BUCS, there’s also the opportunity to get involved in local and regional leagues.

Sports Club Membership

In order to join a sports club, you must first pay an AU Fee. This fee goes directly to York Sport Union and helps to fund the opportunities on offer, as well as provide a sports insurance for all athletes. The AU fee can be paid through the website, simply select a club membership and the fee will be added to your basket. The fee amount depends on which sports club you choose. Most clubs then charge a membership fee on top of the AU fee. This goes directly to the clubs to fund travel, equipment, competitions and more.

The two AU fee price brackets are:

  • Gold Tier £10 - for any club who train off campus

  • Black Tier £20 - for any club who train on campus at the York Sport facilities.

The AU fee contributes towards:

  • Sports insurance cover

  • Contingency grants for those clubs in need of emergency funds

  • Discounted physiotherapy

  • Preferential training times in the York Sport facilities

  • Personal Development opportunities
