Staying safe in our venues

The below outlines the information and guidance on how YUSU venues seek to provide a COVID-secure space for you to socialise, drink and eat in. It will outline the processes we’ve put in place to comply with health and safety guidance. Please note that as the pandemic situation changes the guidance outlined here will too, perhaps with little to no notice. As always, we will work as quickly and as efficiently as possible to ensure any information we give to you is up to date.

Our aim is to create a safe environment for our students, staff and others who use our spaces. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and dedication to keeping yourself and York’s community safe at this trying time.

Summary
  • You'll need to register your details via our test and trace system every time you visit a venue (it is our legal duty to gather this information). Please ensure you've downloaded the new NHS COVID19 Test and Trace App
  • Temperature checks will take place at the entrance of every venue.
  • Each table in our venues can have up to 6 people from different households, and different groups of 6 cannot mingle in the venues.
  • Table service will be in operation at all our venues.
  • If you're not eating or drinking in a venue, you must wear a face covering (unless you're exempt).
  • We now accept contactless payments from credit/debit cards in all venues, as well as YoYo payment.

Test and trace

All of our venues will have a unique NHS test and trace QR code that you’ll be directed to when you enter. You'll need to have the NHS COVID-19 Test and Trace app to be able to scan this QR code. If you don't have this, your details will still be noted down by our staff.

Rule of six

When going to any of our venues (The Courtyard, The Kitchen, The Glasshouse, The Lounge, Vanbrugh Arms and The Forest) only 6 people can be seated at any table. This rule applies to both our indoor and outdoor venues and seating areas.

Personal hygiene

All of our staff members within the venues are trained on COVID health and safety and will be provided with extra uniforms. Each venue will be equipped with sanitation stations. However, washing your hands regularly with warm water and soap (and for no less than 20 seconds) is still strongly encouraged - especially before eating and drinking.

Contactless operations

All our venues now accept contactless card payments, as well as payment via the YoYo App. All our venues will be operating with table service, meaning you will not be allowed to go to the bar to make your order. Takeaway or click and collect customers may go to the bar in any venues to collect their orders.

Face coverings

Face coverings are not mandatory when eating or drinking in our venues, but one must we worn at any other time - unless you're exempt. For example if you're playing 'Human Pool' (pool but done through kicking the balls) you will need to wear a face covering, unless you're exempt.

Our staff will request you to wear a face covering if ordering takeaway or collecting a click and collect.

If you’re feeling unwell

Those who visit or work within our venues must take personal responsibility to ensure that they do not carry the virus into these spaces. Please do not visit YUSU venues if:

  • You feel unwell.

  • You have a new, continuous cough.

  • You have a headache and a high temperature.

  • You have a loss of taste, smell or both.

  • You have come into contact with someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19.

  • You have been asked to self-isolate.

If you follow the above guidelines then it will help to make sure YUSU’s venues remain COVID secure, allow us to stay open and continue to provide safe spaces for you to socialise in term 1.
