St. John’s Ambulance is a national charity which responds to health emergencies, supports communities and saves lives.
Currently, St. John’s Ambulance is supporting the NHS in the delivery of the Covid-19 vaccination programme, and they are looking for volunteers!
Over the next few months, St. John’s Ambulance will be recruiting around 30,000 volunteers to support the vaccination effort in a number of roles:
Vaccination Care Volunteer: Vaccination Care Volunteers will be supporting patients all the way through from arrival to discharge. They will help patients get to the right place to receive their vaccination and be on hand to provide first aid if anyone has a medical emergency.
Volunteer Patient Advocate: Volunteer Patient Advocates will focus on the welfare of patients throughout their experience. You will look after individuals and small groups in the vaccination centres. If anyone has a medical emergency then a Volunteer Patient Advocate will be able to recognise it and get help quickly.
Volunteer Vaccinator: You will be trained to volunteer in your community to administer Covid-19 vaccines with care and compassion.
If you are interested in volunteering, you can find out more about the roles and register your interest here!
There are so many reasons why volunteering is important as well as beneficial, including:
You are contributing to the NHS’ largest vaccination rollout in history, helping save lives in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic.
For those interested in health care, this role gives you an opportunity to gain experience working in the sector.
The role is beneficial for your personal and professional development - all volunteer roles have a package of training associated with them. See the website for more information.
Here at York we have our very own St. John’s Ambulance Society. If you are interested in getting involved in the society or have some questions about volunteering, you can contact them on [email protected] or visit their website page here.
