Women’s Rugby 16th October

UYWRUFC 1st XV V LEEDS BECKETT 1st XV

This was the first game of the season for a newly promoted Women’s Rugby team who had not lost a fixture in 2 years! They are now our highest ranked BUCS team within York Sport Union. Here is how they got on on the 16th October:

"We started off strongly against the Beckett side scoring 3 early tries. It looked as though the game was going to be a similar story to last year. Vice-Captain Liv was the first to put points on the board with her first try of the season. This was followed by a lovely pass out from the fullback to winger Georgia, who handed off several of the Leeds players to score. 15 minutes into the game, Captain Emma converted her own try to take the score to 19-0. However, the girls in purple came back fighting and with some strong runs from the opposition and poor defence from us, the score at half-time stood at 19-17 to York.

In the second half UYWRUFC were more dominant with a more solid defensive effort. The pack dominated the second half with some strong scrums and rucking. Hooker Pip did a fantastic job of winning the ball from the Beckett scrums and Kennedy put the pressure on by disrupting the rucks. It didn’t take long for Liv to widen York’s lead, making several impressive breaks. The final score was 43-29 to York.
