Over the last week the students of York have been voting to elect two YUSU positions, alongside the College and Course Rep Elections. Here are the results...
Accountability and Scrutiny Chair
Firstly our new role, the Accountability and Scrutiny Chair who will enhance the accountability and transparency of the Union, by overseeing our Officer accountability processes. The post holder will be responsible for:
- Chair the student committee who will oversee Officer accountability processes such votes of no confidence against Officers.
- Hosting termly open meetings with Officers
- Chairing the annual general meeting (AGM)
- Approving the Election rules The position is elected by Single Transferable Vote (STV).
Nominations for the position were open for 9 days and voting was held between Monday 2nd November - Friday 6th November 2020. We had 3 students stand as candidates and 984 votes were cast online.
As a result the new YUSU Accountability and Scrutiny Chair is Sophie Kelly.
Sciences Faculty Rep By-Election
We also held a by-election for our Sciences Faculty Rep position, which became vacant part way through the term of the role. This position was also elected by STV and followed the same timeline as the Accountability & Scrutiny Chair role. We had 1 candidate run for the position and 370 votes were cast online.
As a result, Victoria Turner is elected to the position of Sciences Faculty Rep.
