About York Student Think Tank (YSTT)
We are a student run think tank at the University of York. We aim to offer our members an unrivalled opportunity to develop skills and experience the world of policy-making from the inside. It is a non-partisan and welcoming way of engaging with politics.
We write policy papers about current issues in collaboration with other student organisations, NGO’s, and private or public institutions. As a member of YSTT you have the opportunity to contribute to:
- Cortado Weekly (our weekly newsletter informing members of the latest in policy and society news!)
- The Purple Pudding (a termly collaboration journal with the Warwick Think Tank)
- Policy Papers (our own policy papers published twice a year)
We offer free training when it comes to writing, hosting workshops throughout the term. We even have an online course in production; episodes will be released soon! These aim to improve the professional opportunities of our members.
We also host a variety of discussions as coming up with policy recommendations is one of the most important parts of policy-writing. We meet twice a week for Socrates Cafe (offline on Wednesdays and online on Saturdays), and host speaker events such as Prof. Sir John Elliott on separatism in Catalonia and Scotland.
