About Swing Dance Society
Hi! We teach swing dances including Lindy Hop, Charleston, Collegiate Shag and Solo Jazz at the University of York!
Lindy Hop is a partner dance originating in the black community in Harlem, New York in the 1930's/40's. It's a fun, energetic social dance done to swing and jazz music, and our weekly drop-in classes are open to everyone: from complete beginners to experienced Lindy Hoppers!
Check out the lesson events for more info on what we're learning each week! Remember comfy clothes, flat shoes and a water bottle. See you all on the dancefloor!
We also have weekly Sunday sessions for open practice, help with any moves or technique you might be struggling with, and regular solo jazz teaching. Keep an eye out for our regular socials too, both dancing and non-dancing!
If you'd like to be more involved in our York Swing Dance scene, then check out the city-based York Lindy. Check out their website for more details, and sign-up to their mailing list (links below)! Drop us an email if you’d like to be added to our mailing list here: [email protected]
