About Labour Club (UYLC)
The University of York Labour Club (UYLC) is the most active political society on campus. We're a group of left wing students who subscribe to the Labour Party's general aims and objectives of equality and social justice. We regularly campaign accross Yorkshire to canvass for the Labour party, but are also a social community.
This year we have held fortnightly socials including nights out in York and non-drinking events. This is in addition to our weekly meetings which happen at 7pm on a Monday. Each of our meetings are themed around a particular topic, or guest that we have, with lots of opportunity for discussion. Examples of some topics of our meetings this year include:
•Q&A with Rachael Maskell MP
•Meet the leader of the Labour Group for York- Cllr Danny Myers
•Labour for a Green New Deal
•Labour Leadership Debate
•General Election Debrief: What went wrong?!
•The Brexit Special
A major highlight of the year includes our infamous conference in the Spring where we invite Labour MPs and other special guests to York and are joined by other University Labour clubs to enjoy the day. This year some of the people we were joined by include Rachel Reeves MP, Fleur Andersen MP and Ahir Shar (TV Comedian).
Another highlight is our Formal, which offers an opportunity to celebrate everything that we have done that year!
