About Jiu Jitsu
Jiu Jitsu is a defensive martial art based upon the use of joint locks, throws, and strikes, designed to defend from a variety of different attacks and redirect an attacker's force and momentum against them. Based upon the principle of using minimum effort to produce maximum effect, it allows people of all ages, sizes and strength levels to take part. Jiu Jitsu is taught in a welcoming and fun environment and is a great practical skill to learn, whilst also improving your posture, strength and fitness levels.
In accordance with the government, YUSU’s and TJJF’s guidelines we have adapted our sessions to be safe and fun whilst still adhering to social distancing guidelines. In our sessions we will therefore be covering basic striking, rolling and technique, as well as providing exercises to improve overall fitness. We hope to move to partner training in the near future where we can cover more of the normal syllabus. Beginners are welcome to come along to any of our training sessions throughout the year where our expert instructors provide welcoming, relaxed sessions in which each person can progress and learn at their own pace.
All you need to come along is some loose fitting clothing. To reduce the spread of Covid-19, we highly recommend bringing some hand sanitiser and spare socks to train in, as well as showering at home before sessions. Unfortunately we won’t be able to change at the Sports Centre, so please come wearing your kit. We also recommend bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated.
Our sessions usually cost £2.50 but because we cannot train normally, we are reducing the price per session to £1 until normal training can resume. Additionally, this year our membership is acting like a discount for sessions and we offer a £10 termly membership or £20 membership for the year. The membership will get you its worth off of our sessions. (I.e. a £10 membership lets you save £10 on future sessions, equivalent to 10 ‘free’ £1, 4 ‘free’ £2.50 sessions, 5 ‘free’ £1 sessions and 2 ‘free’ £2.50 sessions or any combination worth £10. This includes 9 ‘free’ £1 sessions and paying only £1.50 for a £2.50 session, for example). So the membership fee acts like paying for sessions in advance as opposed to as you attend them 1 at a time. As a final bonus, the discount from the £10 membership for term 1 will carry over into term 2 if it’s not all been redeemed by that point.
