The University of York Hockey Club is one of the largest and most successful clubs on campus. We field 3 men's teams and 3 ladies' teams, with the opportunity to play competitively up to twice a week: once in Yorkshire League and once in BUCS. This is all to reach the ultimate goal of each team defeating their Lancaster counterparts in the annual Roses varsity – the largest of its kind in Europe. The club is a sociable and welcoming group, with a strong sense of camaraderie and something on offer for all abilities. We have weekly Wednesday socials, each with a different theme; a night not to be missed. We also find ourselves frequently out for a Sunday revs and have regular team meals on a Tuesday before important BUCS matches. In addition to this, we have two black-tie events to celebrate our successes throughout the year. If you're at all interested in playing hockey, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Every Monday evening we have training on the JLD from 18:00-22:00. This is split into three sessions 18:00-19:20, 19:20-20:40 and 20:40-22:00. Training times will alternate for teams each week. All six teams also compete in BUCS every Wednesday.
Furthermore, we also have a fitness session once a week on the 22 acres, typically on a Thursday evening, and have indoor hockey training on Friday morning 07:00-09:00 in the Sports Arena.
In addition to this, the 2016/2017 season saw UYHC merge with local club, City of York. This is a merger that we have sustained over the last two years and has benefitted both clubs and individual players. City of York Ladies 1s & 2s train on the JLD every Tuesday 19:45-22:00, and Ladies 3s & 4s train on the JLD 19:00-20:30. CoY Men’s 1s & 2s train at Huntington School every Tuesday 19:30-22:00, and men’s 3s & 4s training is 20:30-22:00 at the JLD every Thursday. They all compete in the Yorkshire Hockey League with matches every Saturday.
The University of York Hockey Club is an extremely inclusive, friendly and sociable club, welcoming all abilities. If you are thinking of joining hockey at York, we will have a stall at freshers fair during Freshers' week where you can sign up for our trials.
Following this, if you do not make it into one of our competetive teams, we also have a development team with a training session once a week. This is a great way to improve your skills and push for the third team, and you also get the opportunity to play a mixed match at Roses. Overall, UYHC is guaranteed to improve your time at University. We can promise amazing people, amazing hockey and amazing memories. So definitely join the club !!
