About Floorball
Floorball, also known as unihockey, is a fast paced variation of indoor hockey played with lightweight sticks and balls. The simplest way to picture floorball is 'ice-hockey but without the ice'. It is traditionally played on an indoor rink with five players and a goalkeeper.
Our floorball club was formed by students of the University of York through the students union, YUSU. We follow a casual structure of two sessions per week, with no trials or set squads. There is no pressure to compete in our regular matches or tournaments, yet everyone is welcome to if they so wish. We hold regular socials (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and pride ourselves on our friendly, welcoming and positive team spirit.
Meeting Times
We have two sessions a week: Thursday 20:30-22:00 and Saturday 17:00-19:00, both held in the Arena (Sports Centre) on Heslington West Campus.
Get Involved
Anyone and everyone is welcome at York Floorball. The majority of our membership have never played (and usually never heard of) floorball before joining our club. It is a simple sport to pick up, with the basic skills of controlling the ball, passing and shooting grasped in the first session, and built upon thereafter. We are a relatively small sports club and so pride ourselves on the inclusive atmosphere that we are able to generate. Floorball is a good way to improve your general fitness, hand-eye coordination and motor skills whilst in a social environment, interacting and playing with other students at the University and in the wider community. To get involved, come along to any session, or feel free to contact us via our Facebook page (@UOYFloorball) or email ([email protected]).
