The University of York Barbell Club is comprised of two main lifting groups - Powerlifting and Olympic Weightlifting. Our aim as a club is to bring together both Olympic Weightlifters and Powerlifters from across campus into a united club where members can take part in both coached and informal training sessions (in both disciplines), providing a wonderful opportunity to meet and train with likeminded students. Throughout the year we also attend various competitions and are currently looking to build a team which can represent the University of York in both local and national competitions against other universities, as well as hosting our own internal competition so you can try out competitive lifting in a no pressure, friendly environment.
Annual and Associate Membership (Powerlifting and Olympic Weightlifting): Monday 8-10pm Hes West gym
Beginner Olympic Weightlifting Membership (term 1): Monday 8-9pm Hes West gym

As long as you are prepared to work hard to get stronger, Barbell is the club for you! Benefits of joining include access to training sessions, coaching/programming and a free t-shirt! Keep an eye on the Barbell instagram (@uoybarbell), or the Barbell facebook to see events that will be happening at the beginning of term to meet the committee and other club members, and be sure to attend Freshers' Fair to find out more information.
