About Athletics and Running Club
Covid-19
If you have any symptoms please do not attend any sessions. You should self-isolate immediately and ask for a test. If someone you live with gets symptoms, you must also self-isolate immediately. You must self-isolate even if you’ve had a positive coronavirus before.
Symptoms are a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell.
Due to the ongoing circumstances there will be a few changes. For any track session with City of York AC, we ask you to fill out these forms before attending:
Registration link to be filled before every session: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx...
Opt in and wellness form to be filled first time only: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx...
Places for club runs will be allocated by signing up in advance. A google form will be released a few days earlier with several committee members/older athletes leading groups at different paces. If space is available add your name under the desired group and turn up at the meeting point at the allocated time. Hopefully this will make more sense when we do it. We understand that there may be more athletes than spaces available so there will be a ‘waiting’ list where you can add your name and desired pace and you will be guaranteed a slot at the next club run.
We also ask that if you attend any student led session (club run, open track, well-being session) you fill out a track and trace form attached below:

Hope this all makes sense. Any questions please contact any of the committee members through our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or email account ([email protected])
The University of York Athletics and Running Club train with the City of York Athletics Club (CoYAC) which has produced a number of great athletes in the last few years. It is very rare that a university team has access to such great coaches and training groups, which is obviously a massive advantage. However, we do also hold open track sessions, where university students are able to use the track for free, should you prefer to train on your own! On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we hold Club Run sessions. These are university only runs, around the roads of York led by our distance captains. Club Run acts as a great opportunity to get mileage in and socialise with other members of the York Athletics team! We split into different groups at varying speeds and distances so everyone has someone to run with. Each group is led by one of our experienced run leaders.
As far as competition goes, in the winter season we compete in the West Yorkshire cross country league, alongside CoYAC. This is a series of 4 rounds of cross-country races which helps us prepare for our biggest cross-country race of the season which is the BUCS cross country in February.
For the track season there is the summer league which is a series of open meetings held right at our university track. We also attend both BUCS track indoors in February and BUCS track outdoors in May.
NOTE: BUCS Indoors 2021 has been cancelled
We are also fortunate to have the summer road race 10k league in the summer season. In addition to this, there is also the Brass Monkey Half Marathon held in York, the Yorkshire Marathon and 10 Miler in October as well as the Evensplits 5k series throughout the summer months.

Descriptions of Groups
Club Run: Student led
These are student led runs which take place every Tuesday and Thursday meeting at the entrance to the sports centre near James College at 7:00PM. We break into different groups to make sure everyone is comfortable with the pace and distance and has someone to run with. Each group is led by one of our run leaders so no one gets left behind. If possible, try and wear something hi-vis for these runs as in the winter months it will be dark.
For more information on club runs please contact our long distance captains: Hannah Durkin (female long-distance captain) and Jasper Baker (male long distance captain).Middle Distance (track) : Ian Wilcock (Coach)
These sessions are suitable for 800m – marathon runners and take place every Monday and Wednesday at 7:00PM. Please meet at the club house which is near the finish line on the track.
There are sessions for longer distance road runners, cross country runners as well as middle distance track runners. The training group follows an annual training plan which looks to develop runners in the long term by building up endurance during winter months with more emphasis being placed on speed during the summer. This helps runners develop both stamina and speed in order to improve their times in races.
