About Open Minds
We are part of a national organisation aiming to reduce the stigma and increase awareness of mental health conditions, working with psychiatrists to deliver training to student volunteers, enabling them to go into local schools and deliver educational, interactive workshops to KS3&4 pupils. In 2016 OpenMinds won a Love York Award for best volunteering project.
Volunteers will undergo training from professionals about mental health disorders, teaching, and classroom skills, also designing workshop plans to share their new knowledge in secondary schools.
Volunteers will need to obtain a DBS certificate and attend or complete safeguarding training. This process will be explained in detail during the training sessions. Our sessions will run every other week on Tuesday evenings and will be no longer than 2 hours. It is compulsory to attend at least 3 of the 4 crash courses.
