Fake Freshers

We’re so excited to meet all our new Freshers, and can’t wait to host the biggest and best Freshers’ Week events at York. However, every year some unofficial events start popping up over the summer on social media, claiming to be the only ‘official’ Freshers events in the City. We’re here to make sure you buy the correct event tickets, are kept safe during your time here and don’t get done by one of these companies!

Firstly, make sure you’ve joined our official facebook page and event so you can get live updates on our events:

How can I spot an ‘unofficial’ event online?

Take a look at Nouse’s article about how to spot a fake event here.

What do I do if I think I’ve spotted a fake freshers event?

Email ([email protected]) with a link to the event, and we guarantee to verify whether it is real or fake within 2 days.

DO NOT buy anything from the event until we have verified it, otherwise you could lose out on a lot of money.

What do I do if I’ve bought a fake freshers ticket?

Email [email protected] with a link to the event, and we will verify whether it is real or fake within 2 days.

Unfortunately if it is fake, we can’t help you to get your money back. However, we urge you to warn your friends about it and send the link with us so we can share it with other students.

Frequently Asked Questions

The short answer is - it’s both of us! Your college will run the majority of the week (Monday - Friday), so you can get to know your housemates. It’s really important that you buy the tickets for their events, as most (if not all!) of your friends will be doing the same.

YUSU then takes over on the weekend and into Week 2, bringing all the colleges together by putting on campus-wide events for all students to attend including music, activities and comedy.

Tickets for all events (College and YUSU) will go live on 22nd August at 12 noon.
Of course! All York students are invited to take part in Freshers’ Week! Colleges will be offering returner tickets and all YUSU events are open to all.
Depending on your College, your Freshers’ Week will start on the same day that you move in!
