Accessibility

The University of York Students' Union is dedicated to ensuring its website is accessible to as many people as possible. Although the website makes use of some features only available in newer browsers, it has been carefully designed to degrade as nicely as possible onto browsers and platforms which do not support these features.

Preferred Browsers

To see the site as it has been intended to look, you should use Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or Microsoft Internet Explore 7.0 or above. The site has been tested and is perfectly usable in Firefox 1, MSIE 5.0+, Safari, Konqueror and Opera.

Usability

Usability has been maximised by ensuring the code on the site complies with the W3C guideline, and all pages should conform to be valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional .

You can increase and decrease the font size on the pages using the links at the top of the page.

Page Errors

Because the entire site is controlled through a CMS to give Students Union' officers and affiliates the ability to edit the content of the site, some pages may contain errors brought in at this stage. If you notice any such errors which are preventing a page from displaying correctly, please contact the Communications Officer at communications@yusu.org.

The site has been coded using a semantically-correct structure, whereby menus are in unordered lists, and headings are in the appropriate h1, h2, etc tags. This should help those users viewing the site with older browsers, mobile devices, text-only browsers or screen readers to get the best possible viewing experience.

If you think there is anything else that we can do to make the site more accessible for you, please do not hesitate to get in contact.
